wednesday

oranger at emo's annex |
i woke up wednesday at noonish, miraculously hangover-free, got myself together and called a cab, and went straight to the IODA day party. i missed the herms, but got to see magneta lane, oranger, and the mutts (?) ...matt harris from oranger hadn't made it out yet, but dan carr (from the court and spark) had kindly agreed to go to austin to fill in for him at the last minute, and they sounded great.

it was good to see all my friends from home turned out for the party, including parker and amy. parker and amy run an artist management company, and they're just about the coolest couple i've ever known. ian moore also made it down, and told me that his favorite part of the night before was me sitting in his lap, heh. i then went with my friend carlin from dallas (who i'd met last year at sxsw) and her friend tonia to the diesel store to pick up our diesel party invites. we then returned to the IODA party, but ran across the street to emo's minutes later to see the deathray davies, who played a really great set. my friend craig marshall, who's a local austin musician, came down to meet up with me - it was nice to see him again.

i ran and got a sandwich before brent picked up me so we could go to the airport to pick up julie and kevin... except that kevin didn't make the flight because of work. :( (he never did make it out, which completely fucking sucked. apparently, every flight to austin during the week of SXSW is seriously overbooked.)
after we got julie settled in at the house, we headed out to stubbs, where we saw the new pornographers and belle and sebastian (both were really great, altho we were so far away it was hard to see much, and julie said she couldn't get anywhere near the stage to photograph the bands). davel and cliff joined us for a bit, before we decided to skip mogmai to go see the ponys and art brut, the band i'd met the night before. julie's myspace friend from montreal, andrew rose, met up with us. i'd been hearing about him for so long, it was great to finally meet him. he's neck-deep in the whole pop montreal scene, and a cutie.
my friend ted from bagel radio was also there with his girlfriend misty. ted's such a great guy, i'm really glad he and i are friends. the ponys were good (i'd never heard them before, but i liked them), but art brut was... i dunno. they were kinda like the fall, and i never much cared for the fall. i met a sound guy named nobby from england, who was really excited that it was easy to just meet random people without weirdness, which was kind of sweet. he gave me a cd of the band he was working with, i'm looking forward to listening to it. we managed to finish the night up not too horribly drunk, and then as julie and i were trying to hail a cab, craig marshall pulled over and asked if we wanted a ride... which of course we did. he found brent's house no problem, heh.
