saving internet radio
the crazy week
wow, i can't believe it's been over six months since i last wrote here. my darling, darling pookie died, on May 9th, at the age of 16 years and 6 days, of kidney failure. he died in my arms, after a rough last four days. i didn't have him put down, i let him die on his own -- altho i did keep him drugged up on heavy-duty pain killers. i miss him horribly. i still cry all the time.
stella bean and i were (are) a couple of miserable souls, so i found myself at the kitty shelter a lot -- until one day this little guy announced he was going to come home with me, like it or not. so he did. he is the cutest thing ever. his nickname is Mr. McFuzzlebutt.
and my little company rightround folded. so sad! but i got a job at IODA, which is a digital music distributor, and i'm Loving it.
and then there's this week: the Super Save Net Radio Week. i'll break it down for you:
Tuesday, June 26th: On Tuesday, June 26, thousands of U.S.-based webcasters plan to turn off the music and go silent in a unified effort to draw attention to an impending royalty rate increase that, if implemented, would lead to the virtual shutdown of this country's Internet radio industry. SomaFM is participating in this Day of Silence. I just finished recording myself talking about the entire issue for an hour, which will loop all day Tuesday.
Wednesday, June 27th: Look out for the new issue of the SF Weekly, as internet radio is going to be the cover story. Rusty and I interviewed with David for four hours for this story!
Thursday, June 28th: --Morning: The House Small Business Committee is holding a hearing entitled "Assessing the Impact of the Copyright Royalty Board Decision to Increase Royalty Rates on Recording Artists and Webcasters" to analyze the impact of the CRB ruling on Internet Radio Stations as Small Businesses
--Evening: I'll be on a panel at the Apple Store for BAVC.org from 7:00-8:15PM, at which I will undoubtedly be talking about the issue at hand
and Sunday, July 1st:
