x is for xerxes devoured by mice
i'm sure that by now you've heard about the whole CARP/RIAA nightmare, if you've been at all interested in internet radio. it is the reason my radio station, indie pop rocks on somafm, is now down, along with the rest of somafm, and many other stations. sucks ass. fuck the RIAA. they're a bunch of greedy bastards who cannot stand the fact that the public has its own opinions and wants to hear music other than britney spears and whatever new horrid 'band' they're trying to shove down our throats via mtv and their dearly-purchased regular radio air time. i hear the fine folks at the RIAA make fat salaries. go figure.
after a couple of weeks of hanging out at the animal shelters, i think i've found the perfect new kitty. she's a wee kitten, only 10 weeks old, and cute as can be. i can't pick her up until after thursday (that's the day she's getting 'fixed'), but pictures will be coming soon after, to be sure. she's one of those long-haired tabby cats with the white paws and light tummy and face mask. so so cute! now i just have to come up with a name for her...
in the past month, i've seen some fine shows, most notably a "secret" track star and mates of state show at edinburgh castle, which not only rocked (both bands were very loose and clearly having fun), but i thought was also notable due to my early arrival, and getting to meet a couple of really nice folks before the show, including an older tourist from san diego who said he hadn't been in the edinburgh castle pub in over 25 years, but it still was the same as he remembered, although missing the parrot and the bagpipe player. hee. fyi: the new track star record is really great. and you can get mp3s from it here, even. also, they're going to be on tour with the shins in the midwest, as if you needed a better excuse to see the shins. :)
also got to see +/- (plus/minus) at the hemlock, which is one of my current favorite bars in town. really, the only drawback to it is its location, in the middle of the tenderloin (yuck). +/- is jimmy from versus' new band, and his brother richard, also from versus, opened with his new band, whysall lane. was good all around.
this wednesday american analog set is playing at my favorite bar, bottom of the hill, with her space holiday, like they did last summer. how i love american analog set. how i love bottom of the hill. how i love that bottom of the hill is only a half a dozen blocks from my home. yay!
also, this sunday, a local band called loquat is also playing at bottom of the hill. i just picked up their new e.p. at aquarius records the other day, and it's really wonderful. girl-fronted dreamy pop band.
what pixies song are you?
