She wandered among the trees Aimlessly.
after two years off, i'm going to burning man again this year. i'm so excited about it! i made a sexy santa costume and found a red bag that even has 'SantaSack' printed on the side of it, so i'm going to be santa-on-the-playa. also, i'm going to paint myself silver for the night of the burn, as i have in years past. this year i found a fabulous silvery-blue with silver glitter ball gown for the event. and then this year i have a wonderful art project: i got 20 yards of this lightweight canvas that i've made into wrap-around skirts in many sizes, plus fairy princess sleeves, plus bags. then i'm going to have paint and brushes available, so folks can pick out an item, then paint it however they like, and walk away wearing it! yay! so fun. i'm really looking forward to this year.
i saw mates of state play at cafe du nord on sunday. it was a good show, kori played on a grand piano instead of the usual organ, which made all the old songs sound a bit new. i really enjoyed the different perspective. also, wyatt from aislers set and track star joined them on bass for a handful of songs, which filled them out, which was really nice.
i've gotten a lot of feedback on my last post - seems it was kind of disturbing, my little story. i guess then it's not so strange that i found it so weird at the time. so this time, i will tell a nice story about something that happened when i was in college. *thinking really hard, trying to come up with something funny yet safe for the kids and family to read...*
when i was in college, i worked at a record store, called b-side records. it was located on state street in madison, wisconsin. i was there for over three years. i also worked at a bar called club de wash, which has since burned down. club de wash was one of the two main small bars that bands coming through town would play at. (the other one - o'cayz corral - has since burned down too! heh!) i worked either door or was a bartender (and my dear friend kris worked door at o'cayz, hehe). between the two, i met a fair number of Rock Stars. in addition, i also dated almost solely musicians. in other words, if you lived in madison while i did, and were in the music scene in some way, you probably knew/knew of me. most of the Rock Stars were nice, although the flaming lips were kinda pissed off they were playing at such a small venue. the aztec camera guy tried to talk me into going back to his hotel with him one night, by asking me to give him a bubble bath. (ha!). i remember one band (shit, who was it...) who'd been saying they wanted whiskey, so i went back to the dressing room with a tray of shots for them, and they were ecstatic, and sent me a nice fat tip plus free t-shirts and cds. at the record store, we had one instore the whole time i worked there, although they'd had some in the past (they had x play once even!). the one we had wasn't even in the store per say, but rather in the mini-park, aka 'peace park' (mmm, hippies) next door (this record store is so small that it is crowded if there are more than 10 people in it), and the band in question was toad the wet sprocket, who were on tour for their brand-new album 'fear'. it was in the fall, and it was nearly freezing out, and these poor guys were from california. i think they barely made it through their short set. once u2 came into the store, and while i was ringing up the edge's purchases i started gushing about the new brian eno he was buying, telling him he'd love it, and he sorta sneered at me and said 'i worked on it with him'. to which i just sorta stopped and stared at him, felt really embarrassed, and thought, 'uh, why are you buying it then?'.
hrm. well that wasn't really a story, was it. sorta a rambling series of bits. i guess it fits with today's tagline anyway (which is from edward gorey's the glorious nosebleed, by the way). heh. maybe i'll think of something better for next time.
