20 october 2004

because, sometimes, i suck.

i have had this idea. i was going to redesign elise.org and in the redesign i would update everything and have a new journal section (updated!) and new paintings (updated!) and new photos (updated!) and... you get the picture. have i done it? no. why? because, sometimes, i suck. [note: i finally got off my ass and did it, as *this* is the new design! yay!]

stuff has been good lately. i've been really busy doing web-type work again. i like that. i got my real estate license in june, and shortly afterwards started contracting fairly frequently again - heh. who knows, maybe i'll end up doing real estate despite it all. i dunno!

doing all the web work is making me feel esp. guilty about the sad state of this website, with its outdated code and general sad state of being. i'm really going to have to dedicate some time to it very soon, for reals.

so much has happened since the last time i wrote here. my boyfriend lance moved in with me at the warehouse. our landlord hired a new management company who decided to fuck us all over, and despite numerous attempts to rectify the situation in a variety of ways, nothing worked - so we found a new flat six whole blocks away, and moved in july. (as did many of the tenants in our building. move, that is.) our new place rocks. it's up on the hill, which means we're less than a block away from the coffee shop, restaurants, shops, bookstore, etc. on potrero hill. this also means less overheard gunfire from the projects (we used to be directly downhill from them), and we've left the industrial area, so no more all-night printing press noises. yay! also, it's bigger square-footage-wise than the warehouse, and we have a garage (hello, storage!) and a backyard (the kitties love it so). i have an enclosed porch for painting, and we even have a fireplace. everything is *just fine*. :) oh. and the rent's cheaper. go figure.

the radio station's doing great. (Rusty from SomaFM got married, finally, to Merin last week! yay! it was the best wedding!) still djing every third wednesday (like tonight!) still painting, not that you can see any evidence here. drawing a lot more than painting recently, though. still no evidence. (furrowing brow of intention)

i've been to very few shows lately - just the pixies (just!!) at the greek, and camera obscura at the great american, plus a show or two at bottom of the hill. i think i'm about to start going out more, though, i'm feeling the need building. that's a good sign.

my ex, zach, fell and broke his back at burning man. poor guy's been going through hell. i'm really glad he's got a fantastic girlfriend right now who's been helping him with it all. that rocks.

oh, right. burning man. went to burning man again this year, my sixth time. it was okay. i'd be quite all right with never going again, i think.

also went to cancun in may, i think it was? pretty place, although very overrun with frat boy types. never really been anywhere like that before. there was an adventure: i got pick-pocketed on the bus, by these two guys, working as a team, one of them was talking to me and lance, while the other came up from behind me and got my wallet. it was pretty sucky, but then we went to the police station and they got all excited and made us go into a little dark room and then they walked the guy from the bus out into the other room and we identified him and he was sentenced to 4 years in jail before we'd even left to come home. wow! you can't request that kind of excitement! and in the end, i only lost the cash i had in my wallet, which was like $200 and maybe a $20 bart ticket. not so bad, really. also, we went to a little island off the coast a couple of times, called isla mujeres, and it was lovely. we rented a little scooter and buzzed about the island. fun!

looking into going to new york for halloween. i've never been. i'm excited! so many art museums and galleries, so little time...
